After a short deliberation, I decided to give an e-mail to Boris with the question "Did I come as a guest star in question?" write. He replied, "Are you in town on Friday evening ...". Then yes?
Wow. Just now I had been chosen to take the games personally veteran in Cologne. What a feeling! So far, I knew "only" Winnie Forster persönlich, ihn hatte ich u.a. auf der Retro-Spektive kennengelernt. Wie ich später erfuhr war er dann der Einzige, der abends nicht anwesend war. Nun sollte ich also noch Boris Schneider-Johne, Heinrich Lenhardt, Anatol Locker und Jörg Langer kennenlernen. Das war für mich, der vor mehr als 10 Jahren die erste Webseite über alte deutsche Spieleitschriften im Web begann, natürlich (gelinde gesagt) etwas Besonderes.
Dann kamen die Tage des Wartens, die mir allerdings mit der Tatsache versüßt wurde, dass die Veteranen ihre Planungs-Mails auch an mich sendeten und darin z.B. über Smudo von den Fanta4 oder Chris Hülsbeck als weitere Stargäste diskutiert wurde. Das war I have too much honor :-)
said on 20th August I took a day off then me, since before the Podcast at 17:15 clock, I wanted to visit the same time Gamescom. By 13 clock I parked at the exhibition park, conveniently was the Dorint Hotel (where Boris and resided there, the meeting took place) right between the car park and fairgrounds. The Gamescom was for me but more of a disappointment, because I have nothing left for nunmal modern shooter and online role-playing games. But that was not bad, I just went back the clock by 15 exhibition in Cologne and bought another Ipad. If even a special day, then a really special one.
Clock At 17 I found myself before a Dorint. My plan to intercept any of the games there, just at the entrance veterans went on, because soon came Anatol Locker ran across the street. Of course he did not recognize me, but I did. Nevertheless, he was like very nice and on the way to the sixth floor, we talked very well. Boris opened the door in the room were already Heinrich Lenhardt, Chris Huelsenbeck and Bob Bates. Wow, Chris Huelsbeck was there, so I had not expected. Bob Bates, I knew by then not (either personally or his name), I must admit. The atmosphere was very casual and friendly, although I had not even met any of those present in person before. Jörg Langer also met another, as well William Baker and Lutz Osterkorn. I had the honor of making first few photos of them all, then I was sometimes in front of the camera. Then it set off all comfortably to the podcast recording.
The podcast itself was not that important to me. I had not much to tell, what would interest others. "Being there is everything," was just my idea, and I was nunmal. The entertainment for the podcast was very loose and funny.
Anschließend mussten auch alle so langsam schon wieder ihre Sachen packen, denn sie hatten noch weitere Termine. Chris Hülsbeck schenkte mir die brandneue "Sound of Games"-CD und signierte sie mir auch. Boris bekam auch ein signiertes Exemplar. Witzig. Auf meine Frage, wann denn abends sein Live-Auftritt sei und ob man da noch irgendwie reinkommen könnte, sagte Chris mir, dass er mit seine Telefonnummer geben könnte und dass ich dann vom Eingang aus auf ihn verweisen und ihn anrufen lassen sollte, dann käme ich gewiss noch rein. Sehr nett, aber ich entschied mich dann doch dagegen, das wäre mir einfach zu spät geworden. Boris kopierte mir noch alle Fotos auf my memory card and also the unedited podcast recording. The present game veterans who are with the power play "grown up" signed me then my 50x75 cm Powerplay Cover Collection poster. Booyah!
After a few minutes further conversation, I said goodbye and went along with Henry and Anatole Hotel to get me out there to pass by them. "Next year again?" said Anatole still - very much.
I can only repeat: Wow. That was something. It gave me great pleasure gemacht, alle diese Menschen mal persönlich kennenzulernen, nachdem ich mich bislang mit allen nur per Mail unterhalten hatte. Alle waren sehr nett und sympatisch.
